Scholarship Recipients!

We know that Gary would be extremely proud to see that these two young ladies will meet their
goal of becoming public school teachers thanks to the generous donations, sponsors and players of last
year's tournament. We hope to help even more students pursue their dreams next year!

Attending Western Washington University

Although the holidays were busy, they were met with many sighs of relief as finals week came to a close as well as my first quarter classes.
Western Washington University has been an overall enjoyable experience and I have found every way possible to stay busy in Bellingham. In school I received a 3.9 GPA, taking classes like Public Speaking, Music in the Western World, and Band. Much to my excitement, I also got to start on my teaching classes by taking Physics for Elementary School Teachers. I hope to apply to the Woodring College of Education early next year to enter their Elementary Education program. In addition to my Elementary Education Studies major, I have also decided to work toward a Spanish minor because I believe that it will soon be a necessity in the teaching field with an increase in the Spanish speaking population.
I have found the Bellingham community very accommodating as well. I got a volunteer tutoring position at Happy Valley Elementary School where I will be assisting fifth graders with their science work. I am excited to start my new classes and I hope to continue my success in my school work.

Thank you again for the scholarship!
Best Wishes for the New Year,

Sarah Nash
Granted $2500 in June 2005 (1st Annual GB Classic Tournament)
Attending Central Washington University

I have enjoyed my first quarter of college at Central Washington
University. The quarter just ended so the stress of finals is now over.
I have met new friends, and I have become acquainted with many students that are also pursuing a degree in education. Many are actually planning on being elementary school teachers, like myself.
This past quarter I was enrolled in classes that are general education
requirements. Winter quarter of 2007 I will be able to apply to the
Education Program at Central, and I will be able to start taking classes
for my major. Even though academics were at times stressful, the financial part was not because of your scholarship. The scholarship indeed helped a lot to make my first year of college more affordable.

Thank you!
